A practical course, not a lecture on meditation

You don't need any experience, and you don't need to sit cross-legged for hours. This is mindfulness made usable — simple skills you can weave into an ordinary day. It's a good fit if you recognise yourself in any of these.

  • You feel stretched thin

Stress and overwhelm have started to feel likethe default setting.

  • Your attention is scattered

You'd like to focus, finish things and be more present with the people around you.

  • Your thoughts run the show

Worry, rumination or a busy mind get in theway of rest.

  • You've tried an app and drifted

You'd value the structure, accountability and support of a real group.

Six weeks, six foundations

Each session introduces one core skill, with time to practise together and a short, doable home practice to carry it into your week.

01

Waking UP What is Mindfulness, some key aspects and breath meditation

Breath meditation, the anchor of every practice: learning to notice when the mind wanders and gently returning to the present.

02

Awareness of our bodies, — how we can use our breath / body awareness to explore the
nature of our thoughts and feelings and how to affect them

Body scan and breathing space meditation: developing deeper mind-body awareness, and a way of easing tension and reading the early signals of stress before they build.

03

Focus on the body (moving) and the nature of habit and thought / feelings

Mindfulness movement meditation and sitting mediations (breath and body) to develop our mindfulness practice.

04

Choosing how you react

Noticing unpleasant events and thoughts and introducing different ways of thinking about them. Walking meditation and mind-body meditation (Breath, Body, Sound) to develop resilience.

05

Being with what is difficult

How can we be mindful in times of difficulty (S.T.O.P meditation and exploring difficulty meditation). Exploring meditations and attitudes than can help us be with our difficulties and not lost in them.

06

Building resilience

Using a Mountain metaphor to encourage resilience as well as other meditations to nurture compassion. This session encourages trigger awareness so that we can
mitigate against automatic responses.

07

Looking after myself

Using meditations (e.g. Lake meditation) and stories and exercises to promote self-care and to create an optimal environment for mindfulness (i.e. what sustains and drains us)

08

The power of compassion

Using meditations (e.g. Lake meditation) and stories and exercises to promote self-care and to create an optimal environment for mindfulness (i.e. what sustains and drains us)

Common Questions

Do I need any experience with mindfulness or meditation?

Not at all. The course is designed for complete beginners, and everything is taught step by step. If you've practised before, you're just as welcome — you'll deepen what you already know.

What does “approved by the British Psychological Society” mean here?

The Mindfulness Now teacher-training course that Andy qualified through is approved by the BPS. That approval applies to the training programme, and the standard teachers are held to — so you're learning from a teacher trained to a recognised, evidence-based standard.

How much practice will I need to do at home?

Little and often works best. Most people find around 10 15 minutes a day, supported by the guided audio, is realistic and effective.

Is this therapy?

No — it's a skills-based course, not treatment for a specific condition. If you're looking for one-to- one support, Andy also offers hypnotherapy and EFT sessions; just ask and he'll point you the right way.

What if I miss a week?

Life happens. Let Andy know and he'll help you catch up on what you missed so you can stay with the group.
